Work-Life Balance in 2021: Managing Yourself, Managing Your Energy

Since I am a founder and entrepreneur, it’s not really possible to switch my out-of-office on completely. However, I have lived with the mantra of creating a life that I do not need a vacation from. I don’t dread the start of a work week – I quite look forward to creating new revenue streams, discussing ideas with my team, and looking for new opportunities to expand. 

I truly believe in the words, “move to where you want to live, do what you want to do, start what you want to start, and create the life you want to live today.”

Research has shown that a good work-life balance has numerous positive effects, including less stress, a lower risk of burnout, and a greater sense of well-being. Our body is designed to face stress for short periods of time only. When we repeatedly put through stressful situations, we can feel ill-at-ease or have a disease.

If you aren’t taking time out to do what fills you up physically, emotionally, and energetically, balance will always seem out of reach. I believe in the power of meditation and self-care to manage energy levels. You have to nourish yourself – physically, mentally, energetically, and creatively – to flourish in the things that you do.

We have all the intuition, clarity, and creativity within us…but we can only access this channel of divinity through a daily reflective practice that involves meditation, mindfulness, prayer, breathwork, gratitude, and journaling. My daily self-reflective practice has provided me with life-transforming benefits, including the strong connection to my inner self that is an oasis of peace. It’s how I completely disconnect from the external chaos even if I am at home or on a holiday.

When I am on holiday, I make sure the important tasks are delegated properly and there is a system in place for the smooth functioning of the day-to-day operations of the business. However, I do check my emails. Now, with Zoom, Google Meet, and Skype, meetings and interactions are only a click away. So, I guess technology has made it much easier to take a holiday and yet keep a tab on any important updates or work emergencies.

In 2021, more than ever, we must take care of our mental health. Numerous studies have shown that the pandemic and global events have taken a toll on so many people, and anxiety and stress levels are on the rise. Like they say ~ An empty lantern provides no light…self-care is the fuel that allows your light to shine brightly.
