5 Signs You Could Have a Wounded Inner Child
An Inner Child is the childlike aspect within each one of us. An inner child is usually formed when we experience a traumatic situation in life that generates a void/emptiness within us. Inner Children are those versions within us that are stuck and traumatised and need help to be healed to help us move ahead in life. It is crucial to heal an inner child otherwise, the wounded inner child keeps getting triggered in various similar situations we encounter in life and makes us act irrationally even as adults. Various wounded inner children also make us adopt various coping patterns in order to try and cope with the pain such as addiction to alcohol, substance, disordered eating etc.
Here are the top five signs that will help you identify a wounded inner child within.
You are constantly on the Edge
It is really difficult to talk with you as you are constantly on the edge and are highly irritable. People from your professional to personal life are very cautious on how they talk with you and usually try and maintain a distance from you so as to not irk you further.
You have been feeling a lot of shifts in terms of your behaviour. People are constantly commenting on how you have changed and just don’t appear like yourself. A classic sign is from being an extrovert to shifting towards a more introvert personality. Other not so clear cut signals could also be such as withdrawing off more, becoming more defensive, closing up easily etc.
You have started binging in more often. You often choose those fatty fries over veggies in a party. You resort to comfort food every way you possibly can. Your carving for junk food has increased sizeable as compared to earlier. You need to eat something everytime you step out of the house even if it’s for a minor chore. You use food to try and mask your feelings but it has a temporary effect making you binge even more and continuing the cycle. Some of you on the other hand go on the completely opposite end and don’t eat at all and are on the verge of often starting behaviour similar to an anorexic. In short your food pattern has shifted excessively and you can’t decipher why and don’t know how to stop.
For most of you the brain can’t stop working and seems to go in an overdrive mode when trying to sleep, resulting to erratic sleep schedules and insomnia. Moreover despite sleeping some feel excessively tired the next day because it was not sound sleep. Few people also resort to sleeping excessively such as a stretch for 10/11 hours straight and this could also be a sign of escaping away from reality.
You are constantly experiencing high to low mood swings. You don’t know how you will react the next minute for a specific circumstance. It is very difficult to control yourself and you often end up crying at the minutest of things. You find it difficult to gather your composure and usually feel lost, numb and upset most of the times.
