3 Essentials to Make Meditation a Daily Habit for Life
Do you know that we have 60,000 subconscious thoughts a day, most of which are negative, self-defeating, and limiting? Most of our anxiety and stress is caused by worrying about the past or fearing the future.
In all my years of experience as the founder of a well-being center, I have found that a daily meditation practice is one of the most powerful ways to transform your life. Meditation allows you to build and nurture a relationship with your inner self in order to create new pathways for emotional and behavioral change.
An authentic meditation practice is one that gently guides us to focus on the present moment through a process of relaxation and awareness where we can observe our thoughts without attaching to them.
Meditation: A Daily Habit for Life
We are so busy with our fast-paced lives that we forget to notice our negative thoughts and emotions that are building up inside of us. Meditation allows you to silence this negative chatter in your mind and tune into an inner space of peace and stillness amidst the chaos and uncertainty that we live in, especially since we are living in these uncertain and unprecedented times where we realize, that whilst we have no control on what happens outside of us, we certainly have the power to change what goes on within us.
Many people complain about meditation being boring, difficult, or a waste of time. Sitting still and listening to your own thoughts for a few minutes a day may be the best move you can make for yourself! You have all the wisdom, intuitive powers, peace, and clarity within yourself, but you can only access these gifts through daily meditation or reflective practice.
My Daily Meditation Practice & Tips: 3 Essentials
1. Cleansing: The three essentials, I believe, for creating your meditation sanctuary to set the mood is by lighting a candle or burn sage to cleanse the space and set a positive intention for your practice.
2. Comfort: Find a comfortable spot around your house; perhaps investing in a meditation cushion to get the right posture will help.
3. Energize: Finally, you can also energize the space by using the healing properties of crystals such as black tourmaline, rose quartz, clear quartz, and amethyst. Or use an aromatherapy essential oil such as lavender or frankincense to awaken your senses, because after all smell is the strongest imprint in the subconscious mind and when used daily in your meditation, it will create a strong association of calmness and relaxation in your brain.
Remember, meditation is not a one-for-all experience. Everyone needs to find their own comfort zone and it may easier for some to start with a guided process. Do get in touch with us at Illuminations to you need help starting your meditation practice or deepening it.
